This happened on the Independence Day in the presence of the Prime Minister of Bulgaria - Boyko Borisov, the Mayor of Veliko Tarnovo - Daniel Panov and the First Lady of Azerbaijan and President of the "Heydar Aliyev" foundation – Mehriban Aliyeva.

From 2012 until now 6.7 million BGN were invested in the symbolic for Bulgaria and for Veliko Tarnovo historic place. The latest investment of 2.5 million BGN was provided by the "Heydar Aliyev" foundation from the personal commitment and support of Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva. In 2015, during a meeting between the Prime Minister Boyko Borisov and the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the Prime Minister gave the idea the first investment of the foundation in Eastern Europe and in Bulgaria to be in Veliko Tarnovo. The Mayor Daniel Panov was invited to participate in the talks where he made an impressive presentation about the Trapezitsa castle.

As a result of the project about 200 meters from the Western wall were restored, as well as three medieval churches with original frescoes, a one-kilometer tourist path was built, decorative lighting was installed, and the former archaeological base was converted into an interactive center for heritage interpretation. A road infrastructure at the foot of Trapezitza was developed.

"Today in Veliko Tarnovo a 132-year-old dream of our community came true. I thank the Prime Minister Boyko Borisov for the undertaken initiative, which was in connection with the celebration of the 830-year anniversary of the uprising of Asen and Peter and the restoration of the Second Bulgarian Empire. I thank Mehriban Aliyeva who provided the funds for the realization of this very important for Bulgaria and Veliko Tarnovo project. By opening Trapezitza for visitors, the old city capital has now the largest open-air museum complex in the country and on the Balkans. In the past, Tsarevets and Trapezitsa were intrinsically linked and formed the heart of the capital Tarnovo. Today this connection is restored. "- said at the opening the Mayor Daniel Panov addressing Boyko Borisov and Mehriban Aliyeva. He gave to them authentic pendants, which were found in the excavations of the fortress over a century ago.

"Nothing is as obvious to people as when a Muslim country builds churches in Bulgaria, and we as Christians maintain mosques. This is precisely the power of the world - the diversity of cultures. And if we all learn to live peacefully together there will be no wars, but prosperity. Let's hope that the world would be wiser not only in the coming months, but years."- emphasized the Prime Minister Boyko Borisov.

"Between Bulgaria and Azerbaijan there is a strong strategic partnership and it is shown at all levels. I'm sure that today our project will contribute to the development of the relations between the two countries. I want to give special thanks to the Prime Minister for controlling everything and helping us in every way. "- said Ms. Mehriban Aliyeva.

On the same day, the First Lady of Azerbaijan and President of the "Heydar Aliyev" was awarded the title of honorary citizen of Veliko Tarnovo.
