On August 22nd, 2017, H.E. Mrs .Zakia El Midaoui, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Morocco to the Republic of Bulgaria visited Tryavna, at the invitation of the mayor of the city, Mr. Doncho Zahariev. His guest was also Mrs. Ekaterina Pavlova, editor-in-chief of "Diplomatic Spectrum" and co-chairperson of "Spectrum 21 Century" Association.

At the meeting, held in the municipality, the Ambassador and the Mayor discussed the possibilities for future joint initiatives in the field of culture, education and tourism. The idea of Morocco to be the guest of honor at the next woodcarving festival in May 2018 was put forward. Mrs. Ekaterina Pavlova discussed the opportunity to organize the next event of Spectrum 21 Century Association "Show the Tradition! Give a Holiday" as part of the festival.

"Tryavna has been the center of artistic crafts since ancient times. The Tryavna carving and icon-painting schools glorify our town far beyond the borders of the country" said the mayor, showing his guests some of the most beautiful works of woodcarving in the premises of the city hall. He explained how this art is preserved today. "The craftsmen of Tryavna - wood carvers and painters create their works in front of our guests, in their workshops in the old part of the city". Tryavna's museums are "the guardians of some of the most precious works of woodcarving, artistic and iconographic art" and future artisans are trained in our National High School of Applied Arts".

E. Mrs. Zakia El Midaoui talked about the traditional handicrafts of Morocco.

Then, the mayor showed the city to his guest. At the National High School of Applied Arts "Tryavna School", the teacher Venelin Barakov welcomed them and showed them the workshops and the finest works of the various classes over the years, exhibited in special exhibition halls. So much talent was apparent in them that the Ambassador, sincerely enthusiastic, said that she had never seen so many beautiful and unique works in a school. Afterwards, they visited the Old School (1936) - one of the first secular schools in Bulgaria, where they saw the restoration of a classroom of that time, illustrating the development of the educational process during the Bulgarian Renaissance. Today, in its unique building one can see a remarkable collection of works by the famous Bulgarian painter Dimitar Kazakov.

The guests also visited one of the masterpieces of the Bulgarian Renaissance - the Daskalova House, which is the one and only museum of woodcarving in the country. Then, with the small tourist train departing from the famous square of the clock tower in Tryavna, they saw other landmarks such as: the Community Center "Pencho Slaveykov 1871", the new sports complex, the old street with craftsmen's workshops, some of the houses of the Renaissance period.

H.E. Mrs. Zakia El Midaoui was surprised to discover that in Tryavna there is a Museum of African and Asian Art which collects hundreds of specimens from Nepal, Tibet, India and other countries and promised that the collection will soon be enriched with objects from Morocco.
