On the 20th of February, in the Odeon cinema, the Embassy of the Algerian Democratic and People's Republic to Bulgaria and the Bulgarian - Algerian Friendship Society organized a screening of the legendary film “The Battle for Algiers”.

The occasion was the Martyr’s Day, which the Algerian people celebrate each year on the 18th of February. Before the beginning of the screening, H. E. Ms. Latifa Benazza, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Algerian Democratic and People's Republic of Bulgaria welcomed the audience.

"The Battle for Algiers", funded by the Algerian government, was directed by the Italian director Gillo Pontecorvo. It is indeed one of the most influential films about the events in Algeria during 1957 and about the Algerian people's struggle for independence from France. It is no coincidence that it won the prestigious Golden Lion award at the Venice Film Festival in 1966 and was twice nominated for the Oscar Award in 1967 and 1969.

After the screening of the film, the embassy held a cocktail where the guests had the opportunity to lively share their impressions of the film and discuss the topic.
