On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the restoration of the Independence of Poland and 100 years since the establishment of its diplomatic relations with the Republic of Bulgaria, a solemn concert took place in Bulgaria Hall on the 11th of November.

It was held under the patronage of H. E. Ms. Ekaterina Zaharieva, Deputy Prime Minister for Judicial Reform and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria. Before the concert a greeting address on her behalf was read, which highlighted the important moments from the development of the Bulgarian-Polish diplomatic relations from their establishment until now. Welcoming words to those present were also given by Mr. Andrzej Majkowski, the Charge d'Affaires of the Republic of Poland, who emphasized the importance of both celebrated dates.

The Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by the legendary Pole Antoni Wit, with soloist Agata Szymczewska, violine, performed wonderful works by Polish composers. The concert included captivating works by: Stanisław Moniuszko - Overture at the Paris Opera; Mieczysław Karłowicz - Concerto for violin and orchestra; Witold Lutosławski - Concerto for orchestra. Performed perfectly and with high professionalism, the music captured the audience and caused a cheerful ovation.

Antoni Wit, a student of the great Krzysztof Penderecki, assistant to Herbert von Karajan, long-time director and chief conductor of the Polish Television and Radio orchestra, artistic director of the Warsaw Philharmonic, is among the few conductors holding Grammy, Fryderyk Awards and Cannes Classical Awards .
