On March 16th, in the University Library "St. Kliment Ohridski " a ceremony was held on the donation of Lebanese books.

Ms. Suzan Mouzi, Embassy chargé d’affaires ad interim of the Lebanese Republic to the Republic of Bulgaria submitted them to the hosts and the guests, among who were: the Deputy Rector of the Sofia University Prof. Dr. Maria Stoicheva, deputy director of the University Library Mrs. Biljana Yavrukova, prof. Dimitar Veselinov, a representative of the library Council, ambassadors, journalists and friends. The books are from different fields of knowledge - history, linguistics, literature, tourism, and are both in French and English.

At the ceremony the Deputy Director of the University Library Ms. Yavrukova said that philanthropy has deep traditions and an important role in nurturing the Collections of the University Library. "For us, librarians, it is always a celebration when we accept such donations", she said and thanked the Lebanese embassy for the gesture.

Ms. Suzan Mouzi, Embassy chargé d’affaires ad interim of the Lebanese Republic to the Republic of Bulgaria said with emotion: "In our Arabian heritage, there is a proverb: "If you possess much, give from your property, if you have little, give from your heart." And I might just add to the above what follows: "If you possess a spirit of true friendship and willingness to build bridges for contact, interaction and achieve harmony with the other, then give from your ideas."

The initiative of the Embassy of Lebanon in Sofia which seemingly aims to launch a Lebanese presence under the arches of this library that possesses real wealth in the field of thought, literature and wisdom was born based on this comparison. But underneath, the goal of the initiative is to open for the young Bulgarian reader the several windows that overlook the history of Lebanon, its folklore, culture, social fabric, humanistic tendencies by its sons, their values, worries, dreams and means of openness to other civilizations and cultures through its language and foundations ... "

The Vice-Rector of the University - Prof. Dr. Maria Stoicheva, thanked the Lebanese embassy on behalf of the rector prof. Anastas Gerdjikov and on her own behalf and stressed out that the Sofia University is open to cooperation with Lebanon in the field of higher education and culture.

Prof. Dimitar Veselinov, representative of the Library Board paid special attention to one of the donated dictionaries and said that along with his students they have made attempts to translate the title - Glossary of love towards Lebanon, Glossary of the ones in love in Lebanon, Glossary of confession of love in Lebanon, Glossary of gratitude towards Lebanon. And concluded: "This is a glossary of words that the authors use to express their honor, their admiration, their love for the country of eternal cedars, to the country of the Phoenicians, to the country of freedom and pride in being citizens of Lebanon."
