On New Year’s Eve, on 31 December with a big musical party, Thessaloniki said goodbye to the title of European Youth Capital of the year. 2014 is the year dedicated to young people who through their active participation made the city pulse in the youth rate, throughout the year.

With the support of only 10 external partners and 10 employees of the municipality of Thessaloniki, 240 events were successfully organized, affecting the lives and problems of young people. Most of the initiatives were supported by 2,500 registered volunteers, organized by 70 voluntary organizations of the city.
During the year, Thessaloniki hosted over 3,000 young people from across Europe who participated in the events on diverse topics of congress character. Many projects of young people, represented on this platform, received several international awards.
At the farewell concert of Thessaloniki port hundreds of young people celebrated the New Year concert, which featured four popular youth bands- Imam Baildi, Ekmek, Bordo and Paranaue. The mood was kept-up until the morning by everyone's favourite singer Eleni Tsaligopulu.
For 2015, European Capital of youth was declared the Romanian town of Cluj-Napoca, in 2016 Ganja /Azerbaijan /, and for 2017 it will be Varna / Bulgaria /
