On June 8, H. E. Mr. Yuri Nikolaevich Isakov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Bulgaria, and his wife Lyudmila gave a reception at the embassy on the occasion of the national holiday of their country. They welcomed ambassadors, ministers, diplomats, MPs, veterans, representatives of the state administration and the Russian diaspora in the country, numerous friends of Russia from all walks of public life.
At the reception The Brass Band of the Police Academy, conducted by Alexander Ivanov, performed the anthems of Russia and Bulgaria. Then they performed other musical works to please the guests. The band Gramophone helped for the good mood as well. Those attending the reception had the opportunity to enjoy traditional Russian dishes and drinks.
The Day of Russia - June 12, is a state holiday of the Russian Federation. On this date in 1990 the first Congress of People's MPs of the Russian Federation adopted a declaration of the sovereignty of Russia. On the same day next year the first democratic presidential elections were held. In 1994, by a decree of the President Boris Yeltsin, June 12 was declared the day of the national sovereignty, and from 2001 started being called Russia Day and became a national holiday.
