On June 6, H. E. Mrs. Louise Bergholm, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Sweden to the Republic of Bulgaria, gave a reception on the occasion of the Day of the Swedish Flag in the Garden of Grand Hotel Sofia.

Ambassadors, diplomats, senior civil servants, businessmen, cultural figures and journalists, Swedes and their friends came to show their respect.

On June 6, 1523, the Kalmar Union was dissolved, Sweden gained its independence and became a constitutional monarchy. Later on that date, a celebration was organized in Stockholm, during which the Swedish King Gustav XVI handed out flags. Since 2005, the Day of the Swedish flag is the national holiday of the Swedes.

At the reception H. E. Mrs. Louise Bergholm delivered a welcome speech to her guests, highlighting the positive development of Bulgarian-Swedish relations. She congratulated Bulgaria on the successful presidency of the Council of the EU. She also thanked all the Swedish companies that helped organize the celebration: SAAB, Volvo Group, SMA Mineral, Trelleborg, Ognyanovo-K, Scania, IKEA and Sandvik.

After the greetings, the children from the Swedish School in Sofia greeted the guests with two Swedish summer songs.

Then the guests enjoyed delicious Swedish delicacies. Those willing to learn more about the northern country received information about the Kingdom of Sweden.
