On the occasion of the national holiday of the Republic of Croatia, H. E. Mrs. Ljerka Alajbeg, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the country in Bulgaria, and her husband, Mr. Steven Kocherzat, gave a reception on June 21 at Grand Hotel Sofia.

The most important day for the Croats is Statehood Day - 25 June. On that date in 1991 the independence of the country was announced.

In her welcoming speech to the numerous guests H. E. Mrs. Ljerka Alajbeg said that this year's celebration also marks five years of the membership of her country in the European Union, eight years of its NATO membership and its presidency of the EU Council. After the successful Bulgarian presidency, the ambassador pointed out how Croatia prepares for its next one in the beginning of 2020, which will greatly benefit from Bulgaria's experience.

Her Excellency announced that her mandate in Bulgaria - after four and a half years, comes to its end and she leaves the country at the end of the summer. Mrs. Alma Ljubic, Minister Counsellor, also leaves. On behalf of both of them, she thanked all institutions, organizations, associates and colleagues for their friendship and support. And she added: "Bulgaria will remain in our hearts forever as our second home."

And since the important match between Croatia and Argentina from the World Cup 2018 was to take place during the reception, she finished wishing her Argentine colleague, who was among her guests, a success saying that no matter what the outcome would be, they are friends, as "Sport is important and the spirit is important."

At the reception there weremany guests including the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria, Mrs. Iliana Yotova, ambassadors, diplomats, journalists, Croats living in Bulgaria and friends of Croatia.

They had the opportunity to taste the wonderful Croatian specialties and wines.
