On October 11, H. E. Mr. Javier Perez-Griffo, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Spain, and his wife gave a reception at their residence on the occasion of the national holiday of the country.

It is celebrated by the Spaniards every year on October 12 and is related to the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus in 1492. This is also the day of the Spanish-speakers.

In his address to the guests, the ambassador said: "Centuries ago, Bulgaria and Spain were within the borders of the Roman Empire, now they are allies in NATO and the European Union. From a political point of view, the two countries have always cooperated with regard to Schengen. I would also like to note our good police cooperation. Tourism has seen significant growth this year, especially in the number of Spanish tourists in Sofia. As far as the Spanish language is concerned, there are over 14 Spanish language schools, more than 20 000 students, and more than 300 000 Bulgarians, perfectly integrated in Spain.

Toast to the friendship between Bulgaria and Spain and the cooperation between the two countries!"

The reception was attended by officials, almost all ambassadors accredited in Bulgaria, diplomats, journalists, Spaniards living in our country, friends of Spain. All of them have the opportunity to taste the traditional delicacies of the Spanish cuisine and enjoy the splendid Spanish wines.
