On 17th of April, Mr. Mashudubele Mamabolo, Charge d’Affaires a.i. at the Embassy of the Republic of South Africa in the Republic of Bulgaria and his wife gave a reception at Sofia Hotel Balkan

on the occasion of the national holiday of the country. It was attended by at about 250 guests, among which were ambassadors and diplomats, MPs, officials, representatives of the Bulgarian institutions, the scientific community, the business and the media.

Mr. Mashudubele Mamabolo welcomed the guests and reminded them that this year marks the 25th anniversary of South Africa’s peaceful transition from apartheid to democracy. He stressed that in the pursuit of equality, justice and peace, South Africa continues to maintain and strengthen friendships throughout the world.

The National Day of the Republic of South Africa - Freedom Day, is celebrated on April 27th. On that date in 1994, the first free elections were held in the country, at which the African National Congress won and Nelson Mandela became president.

The guests appreciated the wonderful South African wines and Amarula served during the event. The focus of the cocktail was the specialty of the South African national cuisine - Bobotie, which was specially cooked by the hotel’s chef, strictly following the recipe provided to him by the Embassy.
