On June 13, H. E. Mrs. Louise Bergholm, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Sweden to the Republic of Bulgaria, and Mr. Anders Larsson gave a reception on the occasion of the Day of the Swedish Flag

in the Garden of Grand Hotel Sofia. Ambassadors, diplomats, senior civil servants, businessmen, cultural figures and journalists, Swedes and their friends came to show their respect.

The day of the Swedish flag is celebrated on June 6. On that day in 1523, the Kalmar Union collapsed; Sweden gained its independence and became a constitutional monarchy.

At the reception H. E. Mrs. Louise Bergholm welcomed the guests:

Warmly welcome to the celebration of the National Day of Sweden. Let us enjoy this evening together in the spirit of democracy, openness and diversity!

This year I have the pleasure to be joined by my husband Anders and our three children Lova, Ragnar and Magnus. You all know that Bulgaria holds a very special place in my heart with the beauty of the country and the hospitality of its people. It is wonderful to have my family here and share this joy with them.

The relations between Sweden and Bulgaria are growing stronger year by year. All of you who are here tonight, and many more people, contribute to our close and fruitful co-operation in many and diverse areas. I want to take the opportunity to welcome the recent establishment of a Swedish-Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce.

Her Excellency thanked the president of the Chamber, Mr. Stefan Bengtsson, for a very fruitful co-operation and those Swedish companies that have sponsored this evening.

H. E. Mrs. Louise Bergholm thanked Zoya Paunova, Honorary Consul General in Sofia and Maria Lakova, administrative and consular officer, who have helped developing our good relationships throughout the years.

She paid special attention by inviting him to stand by her side to Mr. Konstantin Daradanov who after seventeen years has finished his service as Sweden’s honorary consul in Varna: "Dear Konstantin – over these years you have contributed in many ways to promote Sweden in Bulgaria furthering our commercial ties. You have assisted hundreds of Swedish people in so many ways. I have received numerous accounts of the difference your presence has made. Even though your service as honorary consul has now come to an end, it is my hope, and belief, that you will always remain a friend of Sweden. Thank you."

After the speech of Her Excellency, the children from the Swedish School in Sofia greeted the guests with a Swedish summer song  "Idas summersong". Then the guests enjoyed delicious Swedish delicacies.
