On September 25, H. E. Ms. Ana Maria Sampaio Fernandes, Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil to the Republic of Bulgaria,

and Ms. Maria Cristina Rodriguez Salaberry gave a reception at their residence, on the occasion of the Brazilian National Day and their departure from Bulgaria. Many guests came to show their respect. The halls and the garden of the residence gathered diplomats, officials, journalists, cultural figures, artists and friends.

In her greeting speech H. E. Ms. Ana Maria Sampaio Fernandes said that this year, on September 7th is the 197th anniversary of Brazil's declaration of independence (1822), during which it has become a fully democratic state, an active player in the regional and international political context, an important and thriving global economy. Her Excellency also highlighted the fact that it has been 58 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between our two countries and shared:

As my tenure as Ambassador of Brazil in Sofia comes to an end, last week I washonored by President Rumen Radev with the Order of the Madara Horseman, whatcertainly expresses, beyond the appreciation of my commitment and work, also, and foremost, the recognition of the excellent relations Brazil and Bulgaria have enjoyed for decades.  In recent years we have strengthenedour dialogue on matters of common interest, such as sustainable development, human rights and international peace and security.

During these years I have been able to accomplish my tasks with the support of the members of my team, both Brazilian diplomats and members of the Foreign Service and the Bulgarian local staff.

The rewards in my professional life, are only matched, in our personal lives, by the joy of the friendship Cristina and I have enjoyed, throughout those years, with you, dear colleagues and friends.  In some cases that friendship dates back to your predecessors; in many cases, it will follow us in the future.

Those almost four years in beautiful, and still to us mysterious, Bulgaria, have brought Cristina and I much happiness and enriching experiences.

We thank you all for this.

I would, most specially, like to express our gratitude to His Majesty King Siméon and Queen Margarita for honouring us with their presence here tonight. Through you, Your Majesty, Cristina and I express our gratitude to the Bulgarian people for their generous hospitality, their kindness, courage and grace in all circumstances.

Thank you.

After the official part, listening to sounds of classical live music, the guests indulged in friendly conversations, took pictures with Her Excellency and Maria Cristina Rodriguez Salaberry, enjoying the pleasant atmosphere and the exquisite cocktail offered by the hosts.
