National Day Message by H. E. Mrs. Latifa Benazza, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria to the Republic of Bulgaria
On November 1st of each year, the Embassy of Algeria in Bulgaria commemorates the National Day marking this year the 67th anniversary of the outbreak of the National Liberation War against colonialism and for the recovery of Algerian sovereigntyon November 1st, 1954. After a more than 7-year long struggle and immense sacrifices, the valiant Algerian people triumphed by gaining their independence on July 5, 1962.
Due to the difficult health situation that resulted from the spread of the coronavirus infection, the Embassy was unable to bring together Bulgarian friends and members of the diplomatic corps in a friendly reception to celebrate, as usual, this symbolic date so sacred to our people.
By celebrating the Revolution Day of November 1st, 1954, we commemorate the virtues of courage and sacrifice of all those Algerian heroes who fell in the field of honor in order that our country may live in peace and prosperity. This celebration also enables us to pass on to present and future generations the duty to honor the memory of martyrs and to further build a developed, independent, and stable State.
Through this celebration, Algeria also pays a vibrant tribute to the many brotherly and friendly countries, including the Republic of Bulgaria, for their precious and unwavering support for our glorious Revolution.
Since its independence, my country has never ceased to work for the promotion of bilateral, regional, and international cooperation, based on mutual respect, support, solidarity with peoples, and non-interference in other countries’ internal affairs as fundamental principles promoting the strengthening of peace and security worldwide.
As for the diplomatic relations between Algeria and Bulgaria, they go back to independence and we are going to celebrate their sixtieth anniversary in October 2022, marking decades of fruitful and mutually beneficial cooperation. They are bound to be strengthened further in the years to come, far beyond the constraints imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic. Indeed, our two friendly countries, which have intensified their cooperation in recent years in all fields, are working together for its consolidation and promotion in favour of the two peoples.
Also, all our thanks go to the government, local authorities, and civil society which have always shown their unwavering commitment to the development of a beneficial partnership with Algeria.
I would like to praise the ongoing efforts of the Bulgaria-Algeria Friendship Association which has constantly increased its action aimed at forging relations between the civil societies of the two countries.
Finally, I would like to greet the members of the Algerian community living in Bulgaria and extend to them my best wishes for health and happiness on this national occasion and encourage them to further preserve and promote the friendly ties between our two peoples through their work and dedication.
Glory to our valiant martyrs!
Long live the Algerian-Bulgarian friendship!
