National Day Message by H. E. Mr. Dimitrios Chronopoulos, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Hellenic Republic to the Republic of Bulgaria

On March 25th each year, Greeks celebrate their National Day honoring the beginning of the Greek uprising for liberation from the Ottoman rule in 1821. This year's commemoration of the 201st anniversary of the Greek uprising in 1821 coincides with the devastating war in Ukraine and with the struggle of the Ukrainian people for their own national independence.

The new storm of war in Europe, makes it necessary to realize that this year's national anniversary is not only a day of remembrance and tribute to the Greek fighters for freedom and national independence, but also a day of reflection on the need to be vigilant and to constantly invest in defending our national sovereignty and freedom.

After all, the heroes of 1821 and their struggles, continue to serve as an example for younger heroes. It was againn March, in 1957, when the 18-year-old Evagoras Pallikaridis, on the eve of his hanging in Cyprus, wrote in his last letter: "It is good to die for Greece".

Today, Greece belongs to the family of the developed democratic countries, being a pillar of security and stability in our region.

Bulgaria is a strategic partner for Greece as well as an ally, and together the two countries, are stronger and able to shape their common future and to act as factors of peace in our region.

I wish all Greeks living in our friend country, Bulgaria, to prosper and to act as a link of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Long live Greece!

Long live the Greek-Bulgarian friendship!
