Address by H. E. Mr. Jes Brogaard Nielsen, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Denmark to the Republic of Bulgaria, of on the occasion of April 16 - Birthday of Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II

Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II of Denmark will celebrate her 82nd birthday on 16th April 2022. The year 2022 is important for Her Majestyas it is her 50 years anniversary since ascending to the Danish throne.

Queen Margrethe II ascended to the throne on 14th January 1972 following the passing of her father, King Frederik IX. This makes Queen Margrethe II the second longest reigning monarch in the history of Denmark after King Christian IV who ruled for almost 60 years. The Danish monarchy is among the oldest in the world and can be traced back to King Gorm the Old in 935AD. The monarchy is thus one of the strongest symbols of Denmark and Danish heritage. Despite being part of such a long dynasty of outstanding rulers, Queen Margrethe II has managed to stand out and leave her own mark on Danish history.

The world today is of course not the same as it was 50 years ago when the Queen ascended to the throne. Many important events and dramatic changes have happened in Denmark and in the world throughout her reign. However, the Queen has always stayed firmly in her place at the helm of the Kingdom of Denmark as an unwavering symbol of the unity of the Danish people. Queen Margrethe stands for both the traditions, which all Danes share, and the modern Denmark with its ability to stand out, adapt and continue despite any challenges.

Her Majestyhas played a tremendous role in Danish society. Her interest in history and art have led her to organise many initiatives with the purpose to cultivate talent in Denmark. She is also an active supporter of initiatives aiming to bring people together and fight loneliness. The Queen continues to beloved by the Danish people and serve as an inspiration, especially due to her ability to give hope and a feeling of belonging to everybody.

The Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark in the Republic of Bulgaria would like to express its gratitude to Her Majesty the Queen for all her work for the prosperity of Denmark and the Danish people. The Queen visited Bulgaria in 2000, where she had the opportunity to become acquainted with the beauty of the nature in Bulgaria, with the rich archaeological heritage and the warm hospitality of the Bulgarian people. The Embassy is honoured by the fact that it was Queen Margrethe II, who officially opened the new building of the Embassy on 54 Dondukov Blvd., where it still stands today. Her Majesty continues to valiantly represent Denmark, Danish heritage and values and her example serves as an inspiration for the work of the Embassy of Denmark in Sofia.

Wewish Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II prosperity and good fortune on her 82nd birthday!
