On October 3, H. E. Mr. Shin Boonam, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea in Bulgaria, and his wife gave a reception on the occasion of the national holiday of the country in Hotel Marinella Sofia.

The National Foundation Day is related to the first Korean state - the Ancient Gojoseon, founded in the distant 2333 BC.

The reception was attended by a large number of guests - officials, ambassadors, MPs, politicians, representatives of the media and Korean cultural and educational institutions.

In his welcoming speech Mr. Shin Boonam noted that the bilateral relations between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Korea are stronger than ever and that the two countries cooperate very closely in the political, economic and cultural fields. “Since the Presidents of our two nations signed the Joint Declaration on the Comprehensive and Future-Oriented Partnership in Seoul in 2015, the Korean Foreign Minister visited Bulgaria last year and the Chairperson of the National Assembly in Bulgaria visited Korea in August this year. In the near future, a high-level visit from Korea is expected.

In the economic area, since Korean corporates have invested in the solar power plant in 2010, Korean corporate diversified investment particularly in the agriculture including the cheese factory in Varna. The cultural exchanges are also becoming more active. The 5th Korean-Bulgarian Friendship Concert will be held in the Bulgaria Concert Hall on 18 October, and 2017 Korean cinema week and 4th Korean Ambassador Cup Taekwondo Championship will take place in Sofia next month. Now we are holding the Korean Food Week. This evening you could enjoy various genuine dishes prepared by the Chefs from the renowned Congdu Restaurant in Seoul.

Not only the cultural exchanges between the two countries have increased, but also the events related to sporting events. The ambassador reminded: “Let me take this opportunity to mention the PyeongChang Winter Olympics and Paralympics which will be held in February and March next year. At this event, you will see exciting innovations including 5G, cutting-edge holograms and personalized Internet of Things services which have never been seen before. The Korean government will offer a safe and secure environment for the Games. Sport goes beyond politics and is incredibly powerful. I hope many Bulgarians will visit PyeongChang and participate in the realization of the Peace Olympics.
