On 29 November the Romanian Embassy in Sofia organized a reception on the occasion of the national holiday of the country in Sofia Hotel Balkan. The event was attended by many ambassadors, diplomats, officials, journalists and friends.

The date of the National Holiday - December 1, is related to the reunification of Transylvania and Romania in 1918 and the creation of a unified state. In his greetings to the guests H. E. Mr. Ion Gâlea, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to the Republic of Bulgaria, stressed the importance of this day for the Romanian people and conveyed the message that history has to be regarded in a positive way and through the perspective of the future. Thus, the Ambassador underlined the fact that we need to learn from history in order to support the real fundamental European values: tolerance, solidarity, respect for partners, respect for human rights and the rule of law. Building a stronger and more cohesive Europe requires determination, but also wisdom and vision.

From this perspective, the Ambassador mentioned that he highly appreciates the motto of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU (United We Stand Strong) and expressed his conviction that the years 2018 and 2019 will be historic moments for both Romania and Bulgaria, as they will be mark a very successful accomplishment of theirpresidencies of the Council of the EU.
