On the 20th of December, H. E. Mr. Anatoly Makarov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Bulgaria, gave a reception at the Embassy for the upcoming Christmas and New Year holidays.

Traditionally, every year, the guests of the event are the partners and friends of the embassy who have helped to strengthen and develop the relations between Russia and Bulgaria. This time among them were: the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Krasimir Karakachanov, Minister of Tourism Nikolina Angelkova, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Valeri Zhablyanov and others.

In his greetings to the guests H. E. Mr. Anatoly Makarov noted that the passed year was good for the Russian-Bulgarian relations. Much has been done on parliamentary and church levels, and the contacts between businessmen and chambers of commerce of both countries have intensified. Co-operation in the field of energy and tourism, between regions and twin cities has continued. Many wonderful events have been held in the humanitarian field: with great interest the Days of the Russian Spiritual Culture in Bulgaria were welcomed and the 140th anniversary of the Liberation of Bulgaria was celebrated.

As one of the priorities for the upcoming year, His Excellency pointed the resumption of political visits, the revival of the work of the Intergovernmental Commission and, of course, the further development of contacts between the citizens of both countries.

Within the framework of the reception, a ceremony for awarding the State Prize of the Russian Federation - the Pushkin Medal - was held and the award went to the Director of the Russian Center at the Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" - Prof. Galina Shamonina, for her merits in strengthening the friendship and cooperation among our nations.
