On 19 June, as part of the Metropolitan Municipality's Open Gallery program, the Embassy of Denmark opened the exhibition Hammershøi and his Age in the City Garden.

It is dedicated to the life and work of Vilhelm Hammershøi, one of the most prominent Danish artists of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Vilhelm Hammershøi (1864 - 1916) was a bright individual who with his work towered far above his contemporaries. His works are dominated by themes such as loneliness, isolation and alienation, but at the same time they ooze sensuality and a sense of contemplation. The artist did not like to talk much about his art and its sources of inspiration. After his death he was even forgotten, because his art seemed somewhat stale compared to the new avant-garde movements. But in May 2023, Sotheby's auction house in New York sold the painting "Interior. Music Room. Strandgade 30", painted by Hammershøi in 1907, for 9 124 539 USD making it the most expensive Danish artwork ever sold.

The exhibition about the great Danish artist is based on the conceptual project of Kristin Simeonova and is realized thanks to the Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark, with the support of Sofia Municipality. It can be viewed in the City Garden in Sofia until 3 July.
