On February 3 in Rome suddenly died H. E. Mr. Camillo Zuccoli, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Sovereign Maltese Order in Bulgaria since 2007.

The first Romanian presidency of the Council of the European Union was launched on 1 January; during the presidency elections for a new European Parliament will be held in May 2019.

To celebrate the beginning of the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the EU, a concert of the Romanian INTERMEZZO Quartet, Diana Ichim and Noémi Karácsoni was held on 16th January in the capital. The event took place in the Central Military Club.

On the 4th of December the Embassy of the State of Palestine in the Republic of Bulgaria, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria and the United Nations organized

The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Bulgaria in cooperation with the Center for Study of Democracy organized a Korea-Bulgaria Energy Forum, "Strengthening Cooperation in the Energy Sector between Korea and Bulgaria".

On the 16th of November, the Slovak Embassy in Sofia held a solemn ceremony on the awarding of the High State awards of the Slovak Republic to three Bulgarians for their outstanding contributions to the protection of democracy and human rights in the country.
