Direct flights Baku-Sofia-Baku, will be carried out from the 16th of January 2018 by the Azerbaijani low-cost airline Buta Airways, a subsidiary of Azerbaijani Airlines (AZAL).

This was announced at a press conference held on the 7th of December - International Civil Aviation Day at the Marinela Hotel in Sofia. Organized by Buta Airways, with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Republic of Bulgaria, it was aimed at presenting the airline, the direct line Baku-Sofia and the tourist potential of Azerbaijan, as well as establishing contacts with local tour operators.

Bulgaria is the first country of the European Union to which Buta Airways will have direct flights. The opening of the air link between Baku and Sofia is the result of an agreement reached during the official visit of President Rumen Radev to Azerbaijan for his meeting with President Ilham Aliyev in October 2017.

The Baku-Sofia-Baku flights will play an important role in connecting people, ideas, goods and services between our countries; they will contribute to the development of business and economic ties. They will also lead to an increase in the number of Azerbaijani tourists who choose Bulgaria as a tourist destination, and vice versa.
