For the 67th time India commemorated the Day of the Republic (1950). On this occasion, on the 26th of January, the country's embassy here, the Indian Council for Cultural Relations and the Indology Foundation "East - West" opened the photographic exhibition "Religions in India" in Sofia.
Works of the famous Indian photographer ShriAmit Mehra were presented in the central hall of the National Library "St. St. Cyril and Methodius ".
At the opening H.E. Mr. Rajesh Kumar Sachdeva, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India in the Republic of Bulgaria said: "India is an ancient civilization. The country is second in population with its one billion two hundred million inhabitants and is the largest democracy in the world. India is a country with diverse geographical features, languages, religions, festivals, national clothing and kitchen. Today's exhibition shows only a part of the Indian variety, presenting several of the religions in India, festivals, national clothing etc. The photographer tried to capture the celebration of some religious rituals and festivals from different parts of India."
Prof. Boryana Hristova, Director of the National Library presented the author Shri Amit Mehra. He has worked in the field of architecture, advertising and documentary photography for twenty years already, his work is known worldwide, he has issued a few books about India. For one of them - India, A Timeless Celebration, he won the prestigious "Best Photographer of the Year - Asia" award in the "Sagamihara" museum in Japan.
Yordanka Boyanova, chairman of the Indology Foundation "East-West", said that the most valuable in the exhibition is the presentation of the peaceful coexistence of religions-an extremely relevant question in today’s world.
