The Irish Celebrated the Day of St. Patrick

On March 17 at "Royal" Sofia Hotel Balkan H.Е. Mr. John Biggar, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ireland in Bulgaria and his wife gave a reception dedicated to the National Day of the country. In such a way the Irish celebrated the Day of St. Patrick - patron saint of Ireland. The event was attended by many ambassadors, cultural figures, businessmen and journalists.

 

A milestone in the history of Ireland was the adoption of Christianity in the V century, the credit for which is attributed to the sermons of St. Patrick. The shamrock as an Irish national symbol is also connected to the saint. Irish people wear shamrocks on this day, because they believe that the saint used the three leaves of the shamrock to explain the concept of the Holy Trinity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. In the evening they dunked the shamrocks in alcoholic beverage which they used to call "The tureen of St. Patrick" and raised a glass in honor of the saint.
