On the occasion of the national holiday of the Republic of Austria, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the country in Bulgaria - H. E. Mr. Roland Hauser and his wife Geneviève, gave a reception at their residence on the 26th of October.

On that day in1955, the Statement of the parliament for the neutrality of the state was adopted, which was enshrined in the constitution.

From the balcony of the Belvedere palace, the Foreign Minister at that time - Mr. Leopold Figl, announced in front of the assembled people that Austria is free. It is believed that this is the day that the last troops of the Allies, that had occupied the country after the Second World War, had left. And it is the first day of the country being an independent and a sovereign state again. Austria declared a peace policy of neutrality and non-interference in military conflicts.
