The Indonesian film Brothers (Solata) made its first appearance on the international festival scene on January 27 at the Cinema House, as part of the Sofia Menar Film Festival 2026.

The screening is part of Indonesia’s efforts in the field of cultural diplomacy. The film was selected for its ability to present Indonesia’s pluralistic identity, encompassing the country’s cultural, religious, ethnic, racial, and social diversity.

The event was attended by members of the diplomatic corps, including the ambassadors of the Netherlands, India, the Republic of Korea, Morocco, Mongolia, Pakistan, and Vietnam, as well as diplomats from Portugal, Malta, Serbia, the United States, Moldova, China, Poland, Germany, Albania, Finland, and Croatia. Representatives of the media, academia, non-governmental organizations, and the general public were also present.

In her opening remarks, H. E. Ms. Listiana Operananta, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia to Bulgaria, emphasized that Solata tells the story of children from different cultural, religious, and social backgrounds, highlighting mutual support and shared growth:
"This film carries universal values such as friendship, solidarity, and hope—values that reflect Indonesia’s pluralistic society and resonate with audiences around the world."

She explained that Solara was filmed in the Olon Valley in Toraja, South Sulawesi, and features mainly non-professional actors from the local Torajan community, which adds a strong sense of authenticity. H. E. Ms. Operananta also noted that the filming location, known for its exceptional natural beauty, conveys a broader message: that Indonesia’s natural wealth extends far beyond the island of Bali.

"Through Solata, we wish to show that Indonesia possesses an immense natural and cultural diversity. Toraja is just one of many examples of how vast and rich Indonesia’s landscape truly is," she added.

The screening was received very warmly, the cinema hall was full, and at the end of the film the audience responded with prolonged applause.
