It is directed by Deniz Gamze Ergyuven and is a co-production of France, Germany, Turkey and Qatar.
In the finals of the European film LUX award "Mustang" was competing with the movies - "The Lesson" by Christina Grozeva and Peter Valchanov (Bulgaria, Greece) and "Mediterranea" Jonas Carpignano (Italy, USA, Germany, France, Qatar).
The winner of the prize each year is determined by a vote by MPs of the European Parliament. The winner this time was announced in plenary in Strasbourg on November 24th, 2015. President Martin Schulz congratulated the three finalists and said: "These are three very different films asking some fundamental questions. How should our continent of emigration change to become a continent of immigration? What is the role of women in our neighbouring communities? How the economic crisis undermines our life together? These European films deserve our support and I am proud that the European Parliament once again provided assistance to enable them to look as widely as possible. "
It will be recalled that the EP bears the costs of translation and subtitling of the 24 official EU languages of the three selected for the final film, but also to adapt them to people with hearing and vision difficulties, at least in the original version. They are shown in the 28 EU Member States during the LUX Film Days from September to December, in order to enable as many Europeans to watch and debate on the topics covered in them.
Here, the three films were shown at screenings with free admission in December in Sofia and Plovdiv. The Bulgarian film "The Lesson" was presented in Stara Zagora, Vratsa, Vidin and Rousse, thanks to the EP Information Office in Bulgaria in partnership with SIFF and the Europe Direct centres.
