Indonesian Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Arif Havas Oegroseno met with
Bulgarian Deputy Foreign Minister Nikolay Pavlov in Jakarta on 30 October 2025 to reaffirm nearly seven decades of Indonesia–Bulgaria diplomatic relations and explore new areas of cooperation.
The talks focused on expanding collaboration in trade, digital transformation, defense, and education. Both sides expressed commitment to accelerate the implementation of the Indonesia–EU Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and identified Bulgaria as a potential gateway for Indonesian products entering Eastern Europe.
Bulgaria shared updates on its upcoming Euro adoption and OECD accession, while Indonesia proposed cooperation in logistics, port development, and downstream industries such as palm oil processing. The two countries also discussed enhancing tourism connectivity, digital innovation, and joint initiatives in defense and cybersecurity.
Both parties agreed to revive the Joint Economic Commission in 2026, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations, and to deepen academic exchanges through scholarships and research cooperation.
Concluding the meeting, Deputy Minister Pavlov announced Bulgaria’s intention to join the ASEAN Treaty of Amity and Cooperation next year, supported by Indonesia.
